2021 State-by-State High School Wrestling Update

February, the month most states have held their postseason high school wrestling tournaments, is just around the corner. And while many of the possible 49 states will maintain its normal state tourney schedule over the next two months during the current pandemic, many other states will delay their wrestling seasons and post-season … and some have cancelled them altogether.

The following, based on information through Jan. 22,  is a state-by-state look at when and if states will host its post-season events.

States with postseason tournaments – 33

Alabama: Dual finals, Jan. 22 at Birmingham CrossPlex; Individual, Feb. 18-20 at the Von Braun Center, Huntsville.

Alaska: May 21-22 at site TBA.

Arkansas: Feb. 18-20 at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock.

California: June 10-12 at Mechanics Bank Arena, Bakersfield.

Colorado: 2A and 3A, Mar. 12; 4A and 5A, Mar. 13. One-day events with 8-man brackets.

Florida: Dual, Jan. 22-23 at Osceola HS, Kissimmee; Individual, Mar. 5-6 at Silver Spurs Arena, Kissimmee.

Georgia: Dual, Jan. 30 at high school sites; Individual, Feb. 9-13 at the Macon Centreplex.

Idaho: Feb. 26-27 at Holt Arena, Pocatello.

Indiana: Feb. 19-20 at Bankers Life Field House, Indianapolis.

Iowa: Feb. 17-20 at Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines.

Kansas: 6A, Feb. 27 at Park City-Hartman Arena, Wichita; 5A, Feb. 26 at Park City-Hartman Arena, Wichita; 4A, Feb. 27 at Tony’s Pizza Events Center, Salina; A-2A-3A, Feb. 27 at Fort Hays State University, Hays; 8-man brackets.

Kentucky: Mar. 26-27 at Alltech Arena, Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington.

Louisiana: Feb. 26-27 at the Baton Rouge River Center.

Michigan: Dual, Mar. 31 at sites TBA, Individual, Apr. 2-3 at sites TBA.

Missouri: Mar. 9-13 at Cable Dahmer Arena, Independence; one class per day; 12-man brackets.

Montana: Mar. 5-6 at high school sites.

Nebraska: Feb. 17-20 at CHI-Omaha; dual state cancelled due to pandemic.

New Hampshire: Division tournaments and Meet of Champions cancelled; dual meet championship to take place on Feb. 20.

New Mexico: May 25-27 at the Santa Ana Star Center, Rio Rancho.

North Carolina: June 26 at sites TBA.

North Dakota: Feb. 18-20 at the FargoDome.

Ohio: Mar. 12-14 at sites TBA; dual state cancelled due to pandemic.

Oklahoma: Dual, Feb. 12-13 at Firelake Arena, Shawnee; Individual, Feb. 26-27 at the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds Arena.

Pennsylvania: Dual, Feb. 12-13 at the Giant Center, Hershey; Individual, Mar. 12-13 at the Giant Center, Hershey.

South Carolina: Dual Finals, Feb. 20 at Dreher HS, Columbia; Public Individual, Mar. 5-6 at sites TBA.

South Dakota: Feb. 25-27 at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, Rapid City.

Tennessee: Dual, Feb. 6 at high school sites; Individual, Feb. 18-20 at the Chattanooga Convention Center.

Texas: Apr. 23-24 at the Berry Center, Cypress.

Utah: 1A and 2A, Feb. 12-13 at the Sevier Valley Center, Richfield; 6A, 5A, 3A and 4A Feb. 17-20 at Utah Valley State University, Orem (one class per day).

Virginia: Class 1, 2 and 3, Feb. 18-20 at the Salem Civic Center; Class 4, 5 and 6, Feb. 18-20 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center; one class per day; 8-man brackets.

West Virginia: Mar. 17-20 at the Mountain Health Center, Huntington.

Wisconsin: Individual, Feb. 11-13 at the University of Wisconsin (Kohl Center), Madison; Dual, Feb. 19-20 at the University of Wisconsin (UW Field House), Madison.

Wyoming: Feb. 25-27 at the Casper Events Center (one class per day).

 

States with regular season but undefined or uncertain culminating event – 8

Arizona: Season concludes Mar. 5; culminating event uncertain.

Delaware: State culminating event to start Feb. 26, pending approval to contest.

Maryland: Season concludes Mar. 13; culminating event uncertain.

Massachusetts: Outdoor season to begin on Apr. 26; culminating event will take place before July 3.

Minnesota: Season concludes Mar. 27; culminating event uncertain.

New Jersey: Season concludes Apr. 24; culminating event TBA.

Oregon: Season concludes June 26; culminating event TBA.

Washington: Season concludes June 26; culminating event uncertain.

 

States still determining season and postseason – 4

Illinois: Approval to contest wrestling pending; season concludes in late spring, dates TBA; culminating event uncertain.

Maine: Spring season pending approval to contest; dates TBA.

Nevada: Approval to contest wrestling unlikely.

Rhode Island: Spring season pending approval to contest; dates TBA.

Also … National Prep: Not scheduled at this time.

Connecticut: Approval to contest wrestling unlikely; state tournament cancelled.

Hawaii: Season cancelled.
