Iowa takes over top spot in WIN’s Dual Team Rankings
Jan. 12, 2015
NEWTON, Iowa —The University of Iowa — coming off its most impressive win over traditional rival Oklahoma State in 20 years — has taken over the top spot in WIN’s Dual Team ratings and has inched closer to topping Minnesota in WIN’s Jan. 12 Tournament Power Index (TPI), presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.
The Hawkeyes won eight bouts to defeat the Cowboys, 30-7, in Stillwater, Okla., on Jan. 11 to improve to 8-0 on the season. That is the same record owned by Minnesota, which rallied to beat both Michigan (20-19) and Rutgers (23-12) last weekend. The two Big Ten rivals are scheduled to meet, Jan. 30, in Minneapolis.
The Gophers remain the top-ranked school in WIN’s TPI with 87 points, followed by Iowa with 85.5 points. The Hawkeyes are projected to claim seven All-American honors while Minnesota is picked to claim five Top 8 honors at the 2015 NCAAs.
Holding the No. 3 position in both polls is Missouri, which improved its record to 13-0 with its 27-9 victory at Cornell on Jan. 10. Ohio State, coming off a 22-15 victory over Penn State on Jan. 11, moved up to No. 4 in the dual rankings and No. 5 in the TPI; trailing No. 4 Illinois.
WIN’s TPI is based on where a school is projected to finish in this March’s NCAA Division I Championships in St. Louis, based on schools’ currently ranked individuals and not on a school’s dual-meet record.
Point totals are broken down by the following projected placements: 1st – 20 (16 AA points + 4 advancement points); 2nd – 16 (12+4); 3rd – 13.5 (10+3.5); 4th – 12.5 (9+3.5); 5th – 10 (7+3); 6th – 9 (6+3); 7th – 6.5 (4+2.5); 8th – 5.5 (3+2.5); 9th/12th – 2; 13th/16th – 1.5; 17th-20th – 1. TPI points will be lower than the final NCAA tournament points because it does not include bonus points.
WIN’s next updated TPI, Team Dual and Individual rankings will be announced on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015.
