Schalles Award for College Women
This past year marked the first time that a Schalles Award for pinning was presented to a women’s college wrestler: Abby McIntyre from Grand View University (Des Moines, Iowa), who finished as the national runner-up at 170 pounds after compiling a 27-4 record in her junior season record with 21 pins.
Throughout the season, McIntyre recorded falls over the #1, #4, #5 and #8 ranked wrestlers in the country.
The Schalles Award, which has been presented annually in men’s college wrestling by Cliff Keen Athletics and WIN, is named after Wade Schalles, who set the college pin record at Clarion (Pa.) State where he also won two NCAA championships (1972-73). During his career, Schalles defeated 153 of 159 opponents and pinned 109.
Wade Schalles was named a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1991.
