Junior Schalles Award for Girls
This past year marked the first time that a girls high school wrestler won the Junior Schalles Award as the nation’s top pinner … and Millie Azlin, a prep standout from Bixby, Okla., was the first to earn this honor.
Azlin surmounted a 69-2 record the past two seasons with 66 victories coming via fall. A two-time Oklahoma state champion competing at 155 and 170 pounds, Azlin won titles at the prestigious Ironman and Wonder Woman tournaments.
The Junior Schalles Award, which has been given annually by WIN and Cliff Keen Athletics to the nation’s best high school boys pinner since 1999, is named after Wade Schalles, who set the college pin record at Clarion (Pa.) State where he also won two NCAA championships (1972-73). During his career, Schalles defeated 153 of 159 opponents and pinned 109.
