Keckeisen, Plott take titles, four medal in men’s freestyle to start Wacław Ziolkowski Memorial

WARSAW, Poland – It was a solid start for the Stars and Stripes on Saturday at the 35^th annual Wacław Ziolkowski Memorial, with Parker Keckeisen and Dustin Plott leading the way with gold medals in men’s freestyle.

Keckeisen picked apart 2022 U20 World bronze medalist Lars Schaefle of Germany in the 86 kg gold-medal match with four takedowns, including a four-point double leg going off the mat to ice an 11-1 tech fall in 5:12. He breezed through the event with a 4-0 record and three tech falls. It is Keckeisen’s second international gold medal of the year, adding to his Zagreb Open Ranking Series title.

Plott secured his second international gold of the season with a 14-4 technical fall over Aliiev Mukhammed of Ukraine in the 92 kg finals. Plott trailed 4-0 after the first minute of the match but reeled off 14 straight points with pristine takedown-to-turn attacks to end things in the first period. He finished the day with four technical falls in four matches, outscoring his opponents 50-8. Like Keckeisen, Plott was a gold medalist at the Zagreb Open Ranking Series in February.

Finishing with a silver medal was two-time U23 Pan American champion Massoma Endene at 97 kg. He navigated to the finals with three wins in the prelims before dropping a 6-3 contest to two-time Olympian Zbigniew Baranowski of Poland. Endene held a 2-0 lead early on but gave up a takedown-turn combination to end the first period, plus a counter takedown one minute into the second period, which made the difference.

In a battle of Americans, veteran Jordan Wood separated himself from 2025 U20 World bronze medalist Cole Mirasola with effective counterattacks and patient top wrestling in an 11-0 technical fall for the 125 kg bronze medal. Wood was a gold medalist at the Yasar Dogu in January.

Joining Mirasola with fifth-place honors was two-time NCAA All-American and current Oklahoma State women’s wrestling head coach Izzak Olejnik at 86 kg.

Five others finished on the outside looking in of a medal match—Stephen Buchanan and Zane Lanham at 97 kg, plus Taye Ghadiali, Jacob Bullock and Crew Howard at 125 kg.
