United World Wrestling has notified USA Wrestling that the U.S. men’s freestyle team ranking at the 2024 Senior World Championships has been upgraded to third place due to an anti-doping rules violation and the disqualification of a foreign athlete.
The U.S. initially finished fourth in the event, held in Tirana, Albania, which featured only the four non-Olympic weight categories. Vito Araujo (61 kg) and David Taylor (92 kg) won bronze medals, while Jordan Burroughs (79 kg) was ninth place and James Green (70 kg) was 11th place.
Individual placements in the 79 kg weight class were impacted by the foreign athlete disqualification. As a result, Burroughs moved from ninth to eighth place, adding two team points to the U.S. total.
The adjusted team point total has Japan as the new tournament champion with 60 points, Iran as the runner-up with 46 points, and the U.S. in third place with 36 points.
