Bo Bassett, the nation’s top recruit in the class of 2026, who is also ranked No. 1 at 144 pounds in the latest WIN Magazine/Spartan Combat rankings, committed to Iowa Tuesday night shortly after his Bishop McCort Crushers earned a 58-12 dual-meet victory over Corry in the Round-of-16 of the PIAA AA State Dual Meet Championships.
Bassett, who recorded an 18-second fall in the meet, went live on FloWrestling just after the conclusion of the match to announce his intention to continue his academic and athletic career in Iowa City. He had previously narrowed his list of schools to four on FloWrestling Radio Live Monday morning, with Penn State, Oklahoma State and Virginia Tech making the final cut.
“I’ve always wanted to be an Iowa Hawkeye,” Bassett stated in his post-match FloWrestling interview. “That is something I didn’t forget since I was six years old when I started wrestling. Iowa was always my favorite team, and I don’t know why. I just love the way they wrestle. They are very similar to the McCort room.”
The Johnstown, Pa. native will look to follow in the footsteps of his self-proclaimed favorite wrestler, Spencer Lee, who also grew up training at Young Guns Wrestling Club under former Hawkeye NCAA runner-up Jody Strittmatter’s tutelage.
