NEWTON, Iowa — As most NCAA Division I schools wrap up their regular season this upcoming weekend, the University of Nebraska is among the schools that are peaking at the right time, according to WIN Magazine’s Feb. 13 rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

Coming off victories over Ohio State and Rutgers, the Huskers (11-3) have moved up five spots to No. 6 in WIN’s dual rankings. The Big Ten school is tied also with Iowa for third place and just a half-point behind No 2 Missouri in WIN’s Tournament Power Index, which predicts how high a team will finish at this year’s NCAA Championships, based on points associated with the individual rankings on each team.

The following is a breakdown of the points from the TPI, based on a wrestler’s ranking: 20 for 1st, 16 for 2nd, 13.5 for 3rd, 12.5 for 4th, 10 for 5th, 9 for 6th, 6.5 for 7th and 5.5 for 8th. Wrestlers ranked 9-12 earn two points each, followed by 1.5 points for wrestlers ranked 13-16 and 1 point for those ranked 17-20.

Penn State, which clinched a Big Ten regular season championship and is the only undefeated NCAA Div. I team (15-0), continue to be ranked No. 1 in WIN’s dual rankings and the TPI. The Nittany Lions feature nine ranked wrestlers, including three top-ranked athletes: Roman Bravo-Young (133), Carter Starocci (174) and Aaron Brooks (184).

The other top-ranked wrestlers are Iowa’s Spencer Lee (125), Northern Colorado’s Andrew Alirez (141), Cornell’s Yianni Diakomihalis (149), Nebraska’s Peyton Robb (157), Missouri’s Keegan O’Toole (165), Pitt’s Nino Bonaccorsi (197) and Michigan’s Mason Parris (Hwt).

The most notable of the regular-season dual meets coming up will see No. 3 Iowa State travel to No. 5 Missouri on Wednesday, Feb. 15, to help determine a Big 12 champion and set up a meeting between two former NCAA champs, O’Toole and ISU’s David Carr; No. 8 Ohio State and No. 9 Cornell will face each other on Saturday, No. 18, in Tampa, Fla. (where Cornell’s three-time champ Yianni Diakomihalis could face OSU’s No., 3 Sammy Sasso), and No. 2 Iowa will host No. 7 Oklahoma State on this Sunday, Feb. 19.

The postseason officially begins the first week of March at seven conference championships, which will help determine what 330 wrestlers will compete at the NCAA Championships, March 16-18, in Tulsa, Okla.
