NEWTON, Iowa — The NCAA Division I regular season has ended and Iowa State — fresh off a win over Missouri for a 13th-straight victory on the season — ranks as one of the hotter teams heading into the postseason as shown in WIN Magazine’s Feb. 21 Rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

The Cyclones (15-1 and Big 12 Dual Team champions) moved up to No. 5 in WIN’s Dual rankings and feature eight ranked wrestlers in WIN’s rankings. Iowa State will now prepare for the upcoming the Big 12 Championships, one of seven NCAA qualifying tournaments that will be held in two weeks.

The following is a schedule of those seven conference championships:

Conference Date Location
ACC March 6 Charlottesville, Va.
Big 10 March 5-6 Lincoln, Neb.
Big 12 March 5-6 Tulsa, Okla.
EIWA March 5-6 Ithaca, N.Y.
MAC March 4-5 Athens, Ohio
Pac-12 March 6 Tempe, Ariz.
SoCon March 5 Boone, N.C.

Penn State, which ended the season with a 17-0 record, remained No. 1 in both WIN’s Dual Rankings and WIN’s Tournament Power Index, which predicts how teams will finish in the upcoming 2022 NCAA Division I Championships that will be held in Detroit, Mich., March 17-19. Excluding bonus points, the TPI is compiled from numbers associated with individual placements/rankings based on our current rankings below: 20 points for 1st, 16 for 2nd, 13.5 for 3rd, 12.5 for 4th, 10 for 5th, 9 for 6th, 6.5 for 7th and 5.5 for 8th. Wrestlers ranked 9-12 earn two points each, followed by 1.5 points for wrestlers ranked 13-16 and 1 point for those ranked 17-20.

The Nittany Lions feature nine ranked wrestlers — including four No. 1-ranked wrestlers in Roman Bravo-Young (133), Nick Lee (141), Carter Starocci (174) and Aaron Brooks (184) — and earned 121.5 TPI points. The remaining Top-5 teams in the TPI including Iowa (88 points), Arizona State (71.5), Michigan (68) and Nebraska (53.5).

The other top-ranked individuals include Michigan’s Nick Suriano (125), Cornell’s Yianni Diakomihalis (149), Iowa State’s David Carr (157), Cal Poly’s Evan Wick (165), Nebraska’s Eric Schultz (197) and Minnesota’s Gable Steveson (Hwt).

WIN’s next rankings will be announced on March 7, following the conference tournaments.
