NC State repeats as ACC Champs
Atlantic Coast Conference, March 8, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Team Race: NC State and coach Pat Popolizio have won two ACC team titles under his rein and should take another after the unbeaten Wolfpack return four ACC finalists from 2019.
Virginia Tech, which won the 2017 and ‘18 ACCs, traveled to Raleigh for a Feb. 14 dual to determine the duals championship and could challenge the Wolfpack in Pittsburgh.
Top Individual Matchups: There are 25 nationally-ranked wrestlers in the ACC but no weight may be more wide open and have as much young talent as 184 pounds. Redshirt freshman Trent Hidlay will face a big challenge from two sophomores: Virginia Tech’s Hunter Bolen and Pitt’s Nino Bonaccorsi.
Meanwhile, of the six returning champs, Tech’s David McFadden (165) may have the biggest challenge from North Carolina’s Kennedy Monday, who won by TF over the Hokie on Jan. 24.
