NEWTON, Iowa — Now that the majority of NCAA Division I wrestling teams have started their dual-meet seasons, WIN has released its first dual-team rankings. The University of Iowa is ranked No. 1 in both the dual team rankings and the Hawkeyes hold a half-point lead as the top NCAA tournament team over Penn State in WIN’s Tournament Power Index in this week’s national rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

Iowa, coming off a 29-6 victory over in-state rival Iowa State, is 2-0 on the season. The Hawkeyes feature a ranked wrestler at all 10 weights, including seven rated in the Top 8 of their weight class and finish with 108.5 TPI points.

Penn State, which saw its 60-dual meet winning streak come to an end last weekend at Arizona State, is 1-1 as of Nov. 25. The Nittany Lions feature seven ranked wrestlers, six in the Top 8, for 108 TPI points.

The next three rated dual teams are Nebraska, NC State and Virginia, while Wisconsin, Ohio State and Nebraska round out the Top 5 programs in the TPI.

WIN’s Tournament Power Index is a prediction of accumulated NCAA points of ranked wrestlers on a respective team associated to where they might place at the 2020 NCAA Championships, March 19-21, in Minneapolis, Minn.

WIN’s TPI point totals are broken down by the following individual rankings: 1st – 20 (16 AA points + 4 advancement points); 2nd – 16 (12+4); 3rd – 13.5 (10+3.5); 4th – 12.5 (9+3.5); 5th – 10 (7+3); 6th – 9 (6+3); 7th – 6.5 (4+2.5); 8th – 5.5 (3+2.5). Additional points for other rankings include: 9th/12th – 2; 13th/16th – 1.5; 17th-20th – 1. TPI points will be lower than the final actual NCAA tournament points because it does not include bonus points.

The No. 1-ranked wrestlers in all ten weight classes remain the same in this week’s individual rankings. There are eight new Top 8-ranked wrestlers, which include Wyoming’s Montorie Bridges (8that 125), Northwestern’s Yayha Thomas (8that 149), Rider’s Jesse Dellavecchia and Princeton’s Quincey Monday (7thand 8that 157), NC State’s Trent Hidlay and Cornell’s Ben Darmstadt (6thand 8that 184), Arizona State’s Kordell Norfleet (8that 197) and Ohio State’s Chase Singletary (8that Hwt).
