Top Teams in WIN’s Nov. 27 Ranks to be challenged this weekend

By
Updated: November 27, 2017

NEWTON, Iowa — Penn State, Ohio State and Oklahoma State, the top three teams in WIN’s Nov. 27 Tournament Power Index (TPI), are also the top three teams in WIN’s first dual-team rankings of the season, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

The Nittany Lions (3-0) are expected to get their first test this weekend when Lehigh — ranked No. 4 in WIN’s dual rankings — plays host to Penn State this Sunday in Allentown, Pa.

Meanwhile, No. 2 Ohio State (3-0) and Michigan (fourth in WIN’s TPI and 5th in WIN’s dual ranks), will be among the top teams that will compete in the 36th annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational that will also include Arizona State, ranked No. 5 in WIN’s TPI.

WIN’s Tournament Power Index (TPI) awards teams points for individuals ranked in the respective weight classes based on how many potential All-Americans each school will produce at the 2018 NCAA Championships this March. WIN’s TPI point totals are broken down by the following individual rankings: 1st – 20 (16 AA points + 4 advancement points); 2nd – 16 (12+4); 3rd – 13.5 (10+3.5); 4th – 12.5 (9+3.5); 5th – 10 (7+3); 6th – 9 (6+3); 7th – 6.5 (4+2.5); 8th – 5.5 (3+2.5). Additional points for other rankings include: 9th/12th – 2; 13th/16th – 1.5; 17th-20th – 1. TPI points will be lower than the final actual NCAA tournament points because it does not include bonus points.

Oklahoma State (3-0) will be off until Dec. 17 when it wrestles in the Reno Tournament of Champions tournament.
