While December may be in the middle of the college and high school folkstyle wrestling season, the 12th month of the year is also very important to men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers on the Senior level … especially next weekend — Dec. 17-19 — when the U.S. Open/Senior Nationals will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
This Senior Nationals — which usually takes place after the college season in April — is being held this December because the 2016 Olympic Trials will be held April 9-10 in Iowa City, Iowa. That is why the upcoming Senior Nationals will also serve as a qualifier for the Olympic Trials as the top seven finishers per weight category will earn a spot in the Olympic Trials.
With this in mind, both USA Wrestling and United World Wrestling has released their rankings this month.

The current American rankings list the top 12 wrestlers at each of the eight weight classes in the three styles. The most notable movement indicates that both Kyle Dake and David Taylor, who have each moved from 163 pounds to 189 pounds, are rated No. 7 and 8, respectively.
