Blair Academy Wins 2010 Beast of the East Wrestling Tournament
Perennial national power Blair Academy (Blairstown, NJ) won the 2010 Beast of the East wrestling tournament with 248 points. Blair won the tournament behind the strength of three champions and two runner-ups. Blair, ranked No. 3 in the nation in the WIN Magazine National High School Rankings, had 8 total placewinners in the tournament. Wyoming Seminary (Kingston, PA) finished second with 171 points and four placewinners. Pittsburgh Central Catholic, Bethlehem Catholic and Central Dauphin finished in the top five.
James Fox (St. Peter’s Prep, New Jersey) was named Outstanding Wrestler at the 2010 Beast of the East. Fox defeated Dawud Hicks of Plainfield, N.J. to win the 189 pound title, becoming the second unseeded wrestler to ever win a Beast of the East title.
Over 100 teams competed in the 18th annual event, held Dec. 18-19 at the Bob Carpenter Center on the campus of the University of Delaware. In addition to drawing some of the top teams and wrestlers from throughout the East Coast, the tournament has also given out over $550,000 in scholarships through its 18 years.
