2017 NCAAs 1st Round
Only one of Oklahoma State’s ten qualifiers lost in the first round and that was 2015 All-American Kyle Crutchmer, who fell 6-5 to Jake Residori of SIU-Edwardsville. The Cowboy, who was unable to compete in 2016 because of injury, must find a way to win four straight wrestlebacks to earn a second All-American honor.
The only other seeded wrestler and former All-American to lose in the first round at 174 pounds was Penn’s Casey Kent, who lost 7-3 to EIWA rival Jadaen Bernstein of Navy.
There were two wrestlers who scored pins: No. 15 Trace Engelkes (Northern Illinois) who flattened Princeton’s Jon Schleifer in 5:33 and No. 16 Christian Brucki, who pinned Duke’s Connor Bass in 3:20.
