The following is a list of the 2011 U.S. World Team that will compete in this year’s World Championships, Sept. 12-18, in Istanbul, Turkey.

 

Men’s Freestyle

55 kilos / 121 pounds
Nick Simmons, 28
Sunkist Kids • Corvallis, Ore.
Competition Date: Sept. 16
World-level Experience: This is the first World Championship for the 5-foot-10 native of Williamston, Mich., and four-time Michigan State All-American.

 

60 kilos / 132 pounds
Reece Humphrey, 25
Gator WC • Columbus, Ohio
Competition Date: Sept. 17
World-level Experience: This is the first Worlds for the native of Indianapolis and Ohio State AA whose father, Jim, won a World silver medal in 1977.

 

66 kilos / 145.5 pounds
Teyon Ware, 28
Nittany Lion WC, State College, Pa
Competition Date: Sept. 18
World-level Experience: This is the first World Championship for the native of Edmond, Okla, and two-time Oklahoma national champion (2003 and 2005).

Competition Date: Sept. 18
World-level Experience: This is the first World Championship for the two-time NCAA champion (2009 & ‘11) and 2011 Hodge Trophy winner from Nebraska.

Competition Date: Sept. 17
World-level Experience: The 2004 Olympic gold medalist and current Penn State head coach only competed in one other Worlds (finishing second in 2003).

Competition Date: Sept. 17
World-level Experience: This is the second World Championship for the two-time NCAA champ from Iowa State, finishing ninth in 2009 in Herning, Denmark.

Sunkist Kids • Columbus, Ohio
Competition Date: Sept. 18
World-level Experience: This is the second World Championship for the former two-time Div. II NCAA champ from Neb.-Kearney, earning a bronze in 2009.

Competition Date: Sept. 12
World-level Experience: The native of St. Louis, Mo., finished eighth in the 2008 Olympics, ninth in the 2009 Worlds and 19th last year in Moscow.

Competition Date: Sept. 13
World-level Experience: This is the second Worlds for the Chicago native, who went 0-1 for the 2007 team that won the World team title.

World-level Experience: The native of Akron, Ohio, has competed in four Worlds, earning bronze in 2006 and 2007 at 66K. He competed at 74 kilos in 2009.

Competition Date: Sept. 14
World-level Experience: This is the first World Championship for the native of Chaska, Minn., who was announced as a replacement for an injured Jake Fisher, on Sept. 8.

NYAC • Boise, Idaho
Competition Date: Sept. 13
World-level Experience: This is the first Worlds for the native of Orem, Utah, and USOEC graduate who finished second in the 2008 Olympic Trials.

Justin Ruiz • 32
NYAC • Orem, Utah
Competition Date: Sept. 12
World-level Experience: The native of Salt Lake City has competed in five Worlds; going 1-1 in ‘03; 4-1 (bronze) in ‘05, 1-1 in ‘06 and 1-2 in ‘07 and 3-2 (5th) last year.

Competition Date: Sept. 13
World-level Experience:
The native of Kings Mountain, N.C. is a three-time medalist (gold in 2002,  silver in ‘09, bronze in 2007) in seven previous Worlds.

 

Women’s Freestyle

Competition Date: Sept. 14
World-level Experience: The native of Honolulu, Hawaii, returns for her third Worlds, capturing gold in 2008 and finishing ninth in 2009.

Competition Date: Sept. 14
World-level Experience: A 2007 Junior World champion, the native of Puyallup, Wash., is competing in her first World tournament on the Senior level.

Helen Maroulis, 19
NYAC • Rockville, Md.
Competition Date: Sept. 15
World-level Experience: This is the second Worlds for Maroulis, who finished eighth in 2008, the same year she finished third in Junior Worlds.

 

59 kilos / 130 pounds
Kelsey Campbell • 26
Sunkist Kids • Colorado Springs
Competition Date: Sept. 15
World-level Experience: This is the second Worlds for the native of Milwaukee, Ore., and graduate of Arizona State; finishing fifth last year in Moscow.

Elena Pirozhkova • 24
Gator WC • Colorado Springs
Competition Date: Sept. 15
World-level Experience: The immigrant of Russia and native of Greenfield, Mass. earned a silver last year after claiming eighth in 2008 and seventh in 2009.

Adeline Gray • 20
NYAC • Colorado Springs, CO.
Competition Date: Sept. 16
World-level Experience: This is the second Worlds for the native of Lakewood, Colo., who finished fifth in 2009 and missed last year because of an injury.

Ali Bernard • 26
Gator WC • New Ulm, Minn.
Competition Date: Sept. 16
World-level Experience: The two-time Junior World champion also competed in the 2009 Worlds (0-1) after finishing fifth in 2008 Olympics.
