NEWTON, Iowa — With most of the NCAA Division I wrestling programs spending the past week taking or preparing for semester exams, little has changed in WIN Magazine’s Dec. 14 Tournament Power Index, dual or individual rankings.

But the stage is set for some exciting dual and tournament competition over the holiday period, starting with the Journeymen Collegiate Duals, Dec. 20-21, in Niceville, Fla., where six of WIN’s Top-10 ranked dual programs — No. 1 Iowa, No. 2 Penn State, No. 4. NC State, No. 7 Missouri, No. 8 Arizona State and No. 10 Virginia Tech — will compete. This is not a National Duals tournament, but will set up three dual competitions for these schools with six additional schools — Binghamton, Central Michigan, Cornell, Hofstra, Lehigh and Northern Iowa — in two different pools. Iowa and Penn State, slated to wrestle Jan. 28, will not compete against each other.

Go to https://www.journeymenwrestling.com/tournament-format to view schedule.

This event will be followed by two prestigious tournaments: the Midlands, Dec. 29-30, in Chicago and the Southern Scuffle, Jan. 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tenn. WIN’s next rankings will be announced on Jan. 3, 2022.

Iowa and Penn State also remain the top two schools in WIN’s Tournament Power Index, which predicts approximately how many NCAA points a team could score in Detroit in March at the Division I Championships based on where their individuals are ranked at this point in the season. Excluding bonus points, the TPI is based on numbers associated with individual placements/rankings based on our current rankings below: 20 for 1st, 16 for 2nd, 13.5 for 3rd, 12.5 for 4th, 10 for 5th, 9 for 6th, 6.5 for 7th and 5.5 for 8th. Wrestlers ranked 9-12 earn two points each, followed by 1.5 points for wrestlers ranked 13-16 and 1 point for those ranked 17-20.
