NEWTON, Iowa — Penn State and Ohio State, which will wrestle in a Feb. 3 dual meet, remained the top two schools in WIN’s Jan. 29, 2018 Tournament Power Index and Dual Rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

The Nittany Lions, winners of the last three NCAA tournaments (and six of the last seven NCAAs), feature eight ranked wrestlers and all eight are rated in the Top 8 of their weight class and are ranked No. 1 in both the team dual (11-0) and tournament team (with 125 TPI points) rankings.

Ohio State (12-0) remained No. 2 in both the dual and tournament (111 points) rankings and feature ten ranked wrestlers, including eight in the Top 8 of their weight class.

WIN’s Tournament Power Index (TPI) awards team points for individuals ranked in the respective weight classes based on how many potential All-Americans each school could produce at the 2018 NCAA Championships this March. WIN’s TPI point totals are broken down by the following individual rankings: 1st – 20 (16 AA points + 4 advancement points); 2nd – 16 (12+4); 3rd – 13.5 (10+3.5); 4th – 12.5 (9+3.5); 5th – 10 (7+3); 6th – 9 (6+3); 7th – 6.5 (4+2.5); 8th – 5.5 (3+2.5). Additional points for other rankings include: 9th/12th – 2; 13th/16th – 1.5; 17th-20th – 1. TPI points will be lower than the final actual NCAA tournament points because it does not include bonus points.

In previewing this weekend’s dual, which begins at 8 p.m (EST) this Saturday in State College, Pa., the following are a preview of Nittany Lions and Buckeyes who are both ranked in the Top 8 of their weight classes:

Weight Penn State Ohio State
149 1. Zain Retheford 7. Ke-Shawn Hayes
157 1. Jason Nolf 7. Micah Jordan
174 2. Mark Hall 3. Bo Jordan
184 1. Bo Nickal 2. Myles Martin
197 5. Anthony Cassar 1. Kollin Moore
Hwt 5. Nick Nevills 1. Kyle Snyder

Among the other highly-ranked teams, both No. 3 Michigan and No. 5 Missouri, which won road duals over No. 4 Iowa and No. 6 Oklahoma State last weekend, retained their dual rankings, but trailed the Hawkeyes and Cowboys in the Tournament Power Index.
