Top-ranked Lions to host Cowboys in top Dual event

By
Updated: February 15, 2016

NEWTON, Iowa — Penn State, which will play host to Oklahoma State in this weekend’s NWCA Dual Meet Championship Series, remained No. 1 in WIN’s Feb. 15 rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

The Penn State-Oklahoma State dual, which will take place Sunday, Feb. 21, is one of eight dual matchups where eight Big Ten Conference schools will host eight non-Big Ten schools, including a Feb. 22 meeting between No. 2 Iowa and ACC runner-up NC State.

The Wolfpack appeared to be in the running to face Penn State before Virginia Tech upset NC State, 19-14, last Friday to claim the ACC team title.

The following is a list of all eight match-ups in the NWCA Dual Meet Series:

  • Friday, Feb. 19, 8:30 p.m. ET: Iowa State (Big 12) at Minnesota
  • Saturday: Feb. 20, 8 p.m. ET: Lehigh (EIWA) at Rutgers
  • Sunday, Feb. 21, 1 p.m. ET: Appalachian State (SoCon) at Indiana
  • Sunday, Feb. 21, 3 p.m. ET: Missouri (MAC) at Nebraska
  • Sunday, Feb. 21, 2 p.m. ET: Virginia Tech (ACC) at Michigan
  • Sunday, Feb. 21, 5 p.m. ET: Oklahoma State (Big 12) at Penn State
  • Monday, Feb. 22, 7 p.m. ET: Edinboro (EWL) at Ohio State
  • Monday, Feb. 22, 8 p.m. ET: NC State (ACC) at Iowa

The undefeated Nittany Lions (15-0) are also ranked No. 1 in WIN’s Tournament Power Index, which predicts where teams will finish in the 2016 NCAA Division I Championships, March 17-19, in New York City.

WIN’s TPI point totals are broken down as follows: 1st – 20 (16 AA points + 4 advancement points); 2nd – 16 (12+4); 3rd – 13.5 (10+3.5); 4th – 12.5 (9+3.5); 5th – 10 (7+3); 6th – 9 (6+3); 7th – 6.5 (4+2.5); 8th – 5.5 (3+2.5). Additional points for other rankings include: 9th/12th – 2; 13th/16th – 1.5; 17th-20th – 1. TPI points will be lower than the final actual NCAA tournament points because it does not include bonus points.

The ten top-ranked individuals remain No. 1 in this week’s rankings, including Oklahoma State’s Dean Heil, who defeated Stanford’s No. 2 Joey McKenna in sudden victory on Feb. 14.

Meanwhile, Wisconsin’s Isaac Jordan, ranked third in last week’s rankings, is now ranked No. 2 after he defeated his first cousin and second-ranked Bo Jordan of Ohio State, 6-4, on Feb. 12 in Columbus, Ohio.
