NEWTON, Iowa — Coming off an impressive home win against defending national champion Ohio State last Friday, Penn State enlarged its lead in WIN’s Feb. 8 rankings, presented by Cliff Keen Athletic.

The Nittany Lions used their 24-14 victory before 15,983 fans in the Bryce Jordan Center over the Buckeyes to improve their record to 13-0 and also lead the NCAA field by 25 points (102.5-77.5) in WIN’s Tournament Power Index, which predicts how a team will finish in the 2016 NCAA Championships, March 17-19 in New York City, based on individual rankings.

WIN’s TPI point totals are broken down as follows: 1st – 20 (16 AA points + 4 advancement points); 2nd – 16 (12+4); 3rd – 13.5 (10+3.5); 4th – 12.5 (9+3.5); 5th – 10 (7+3); 6th – 9 (6+3); 7th – 6.5 (4+2.5); 8th – 5.5 (3+2.5). Additional points for other rankings include: 9th/12th – 2; 13th/16th – 1.5; 17th-20th – 1. TPI points will be lower than the final actual NCAA tournament points because it does not include bonus points.

Meanwhile, there are three schools — No. 2 Iowa, No. 3 Oklahoma State and No. 4 Ohio State — which are separated by five points in this week’s TPI rankings.

While most of the schools have wrapped up their conference dual season, there remains one big ACC dual this Friday, Feb. 12, when Virginia Tech (13-2) travels to NC State (21-0). The winner will earn a spot against Penn State in the Feb. 21 NWCA National Duals Championship Series that will feature a “bowl-like” series of duals featuring eight Big Ten schools hosting champions and a top wild-card team from the other seven Division I conferences.
