NEWTON, Iowa — When Oklahoma State’s true freshman Kaid Brock pinned Oklahoma’s defending national champ Cody Brewer in last weekend’s Bedlam dual in Norman, Okla., the Cowboy entered the national rankings at 133 pounds and moved Oklahoma State up in this week’s WIN Tournament Power Index (TPI).

Brock, who won a third Oklahoma state title for Stillwater High School last winter, is ranked No. 10 and more importantly has moved the Cowboys within two points of Iowa in this week’s TPI. The Hawkeyes, who defeated Rutgers last week, remain the top-ranked tournament team with 88.5 TPI points, followed by Oklahoma State with 86.5 and Penn State with 79.5 points.

WIN’s TPI points are based on where the teams’ individuals are projected — based on WIN’s individual rankings — to finish in this season’s NCAA Championships, March 17-19, in New York City.

WIN’s TPI point totals are broken down as followed: 1st – 20 (16 AA points + 4 advancement points); 2nd – 16 (12+4); 3rd – 13.5 (10+3.5); 4th – 12.5 (9+3.5); 5th – 10 (7+3); 6th – 9 (6+3); 7th – 6.5 (4+2.5); 8th – 5.5 (3+2.5). Additional points for other rankings include: 9th/12th – 2; 13th/16th – 1.5; 17th-20th – 1. TPI points will be lower than the final actual NCAA tournament points because it does not include bonus points.

Another reason for Oklahoma State’s climb is that Kyle Crutchmer has moved up to No. 1 at 174 pounds. That comes after Ohio State’s Bo Jordan — rated No. 1 at 174 last week — has dropped back down to 165 pounds and is rated No. 2 between top-ranked Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State and No. 3 Isaac Jordan (the Buckeye’s cousin) of Wisconsin.

Other notable newcomers to this week’s individual rankings are Pittsburgh’s sophomore Dom Forys and freshman TeShan Campbell, who both scored upsets against ranked foes and helped the Panthers defeat Wisconsin last weekend to moved Pitt (5-1) into WIN’s Top 25 Dual Team rankings at No. 16. Forys defeated Ryan Taylor at 133 pounds and Campbell beat Ricky Robertson at 174.

Penn State remained the number one dual team after defeating Wisconsin in a Big Ten opener. The Lions are followed by Iowa, Virginia Tech, NC State and Missouri. Nebraska, which was rated fourth last week, fell to No. 7 after losing at home to Rutgers.

Also joining WIN dual rankings is Navy, which is 5-0 on the year after defeating EIWA rival Princeton last weekend.
