Summer of 2014 National Wrestling Schedule

The following is a list of national wrestling events that will take place during the summer.

May 7 — Beat The Streets Gala — Times Square, New York City

Jordan Burroughs, the World and Olympic champion, and David Taylor, the former two-time NCAA champion and Hodge Trophy winner from Penn State — coming off an incredible U.S. Open final at 63k/174 pounds on April 19 — will highlight a series of matches which will take place against international competition in Times Square for the fifth annual event that will promote the Beat the Streets organization.

Other Team USA wrestlers awaiting their opponents are Nahshon Garrett (57 kg/125.5 lbs.), Jimmy Kennedy (61 kg/134 lbs.), Jordan Oliver (65 kg/143 lbs.), Brent Metcalf (65 kg/143 lbs.), Logan Stieber (65 kg/143 lbs.), Ed Ruth (86 kg/189 lbs.) and Kyle Snyder (97 kg/213 lbs.) on the men’s side; and Helen Maroulis (55 kg/121 lbs.) and Randi Miller (69 kg/152 lbs.) in the women’s line-up.

May 24-26 — NHSCA National Duals — Virginia Beach, Va.

Dual teams from three divisions — high school, middle school and elementary school — will compete at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. Pool action will take place on the first two days with bracket competition beginning on May 26.

May 30 — USA Wrestling Junior World Team Trials — Madison, Wisc.

The nation’s top men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers between the ages of 17-20 competing for a chance to represent the U.S. at the FILA Junior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, August 5-10.

May 31-June 1 — USA Wrestling World Team Trials-Freestyle Phase I — Madison, Wisc.

The 12 Olympic weights in freestyle — six each in men’s and women’s freestyle — which will be contested in this September’s FILA World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, will be determined at the Alliant Energy Center’s Veteran Memorial Coliseum on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.

The Olympic weight classes (in kilos) for each style are:

Men’s Freestyle: 57, 65, 74, 86, 97, 125

Women’s Freestyle: 48, 53, 58, 63, 69, 75

Champions from the recent U.S. Open automatically earned a spot in the best 2-of-3 Championship Series and will face the wrestler who wins a mini-tournament earlier in the two-day event.

The remaining two non-Olympic weight classes will be determined this summer.

June 12-14 — AAU Western Grand Nationals — Billings, Mont.

Wrestling will take place in all three styles: freestyle, folkstyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.

June 13-14 — USA Wrestling World Team Trials — Greco-Roman Phase I — Daytona Beach, Fla.

Similar to the freestyle event which will take place in Madison, the six Olympic weight classes in Greco-Roman Wrestling — in kilos: 59, 66, 75, 85, 98, 130 — will take place in Ocean Center – Exhibit Hall in Daytona Beach. In addition, USA Wrestling will hold its Cadet National Dual Championships.

June 24-28 — USAW Junior National Dual Championships — Oklahoma City, Okla.

Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestlers will represent their states at this annual event which will be held in the Freede Center in Oklahoma City.

June 26-July 1 — AAU Scholastic Disney Duals — Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

Community, District/All-Star and Developmental High School wrestlers from around the country will compete as teams in dual competition at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Disney property in Orlando, Fla.

July 3-5 — AAU Eastern Grand Nationals — Greensboro, N.C.

The Greensboro Coliseum Complex will serve as hosts for this event that will hold separate tournaments in 10 different age groups.

July 19-26 — Junior/Cadet Nationals & Senior World Team Team Trials Phase II — Fargo, N.D.

The Fargodome of North Dakota State University will once again serve as home for both Greco-Roman and Freestyle (in boys’ and girls’ wrestling) on both the Cadet and Junior National levels.

In addition, USA Wrestling will determine the final six spots — two each in men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman — that will be contested in the FILA World Championships in September.

The non-Olympic weight classes (kilos) in each of the three styles are 61 and 70 in men’s freestyle, 71 and 80 in Greco and 55 and 60 in women’s freestyle.

July 29-Aug. 2 — AAU Junior Olympics — Des Moines, Iowa

The Iowa Events Center in the capital of Iowa will host competition for many top high school wrestlers from the around the country. The format will be a dual-meet competition.
