A new organization has been formed called the United States Wrestling Foundation (USWF). USWF is a fundraising group for wrestling whose board consists of wrestling legends like Dan Gable, Bruce Baumgartner, Bill and Jim Scherr, Tom Brands, Zeke Jones and many others and business leaders like Olympic Team Leaders Mike Novogratz and Andy Barth who are committed to the growth of our sport.

The USWF’s mission is to support the Senior-level Olympic teams and developmental programs, provide career mentorship to our senior athletes, and engage the wrestling public.

The Foundation has launched a 64-man “Greatest College Wrestler” tournament to engage wrestling fans and to provide something entertaining for fans leading up to the NCAAs. The tourney is in the second round and voting is live.  Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorites.

USWF is also asking people to join “The Silent Army” and become members of our Foundation.  For a $35 minimum donation new members will get a T-shirt and a private conference call with National Freestyle team coach Zeke Jones to preview the World Championships.  With the money, USWF is working with the National Wrestling Coaches Association to provide seed funding for a new college wrestling program at the Div. II, Div. III or NAIA level.  Many smaller colleges are interested in starting programs to boost enrollment, but the start-up money for a new mat, equipment, and wrestling room renovations is a big hurdle.  For every 600 new members who join the Silent Army, Greg Hatcher of Little Rock, AR will donate a mat and the USWF will be able to directly help fund a new program.

To learn more about the Foundation, its leadership and mission, vote in the tournament and join the Foundation and help start a new college program. Information can be found at www.USWrestlingFoundation.com.
