CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Oklahoma City University notched its fourth consecutive NWCA National Duals championship with a 25-13 victory over Simon Fraser (British Columbia) on Sunday at the UNI Dome.

The two-time defending Women’s College Wrestling Association champion Stars improved to 16-0 in duals. OCU also knocked off Cumberlands (Ky.) 32-7 earlier Sunday to complete pool play and make the championship dual.

The Stars defeated Simon Fraser in the final for the second consecutive year.

Against Simon Fraser, Kristie Davis defeated Justina DiStasio 6-0, 6-0 at 72 kilograms (158 pounds) to give OCU a 17-13 dual lead. The Stars’ Melissa Simmons followed with a pin of Taylor Dicks, then OCU’s Brittany Delgado closed the dual with a 3-0, 2-0 victory over Hillary Greening.

Danielle Lappage put Simon Fraser ahead 12-10 with a win. Amberle Montgomery answered for OCU with a 2-1, 1-1 victory to tie the dual 13-13.

“It was pretty exciting,” OCU coach Archie Randall said. “Going into the sixth weight, it was tied. It could have gone either way. We moved every single girl up in the last four weights. We made a move, and it paid off.
“The competition level has changed a lot in the past four years. It’s tougher, and the technique is higher. It was a good tournament, and we wrestled well. The national tournament will be tough, too.”

Against Cumberlands, Simmons and Kristi Garr stuck pins for OCU. The Stars won the final five matches of the dual.

OCU has yet to lose in dual competition since Nov. 29, 2008. The Stars have gone 49-0-1 in duals since then.

The Stars face Missouri Baptist at 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Louis before taking on Lindenwood (Mo.) at 7 p.m. Thursday in St. Charles, Mo.
OCU aims for its third WCWA title in a row on Jan. 29 in Atherton, Calif.
