NAIA News: Southern Oregon Sets National Dual Meet Wins Record

ATHERTON, Calif. – The 12th-ranked Southern Oregon wrestling team broke the NAIA record for dual wins as a program Saturday with a 27-8 victory over Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) at the Menlo Duals.

The victory was the 464th in the history of the program, besting the mark of 463 victories by Westmar College (Iowa) before they closed in 1997. Westmar’s all-time dual record was 463-150-12 from 1960 – 97.

SOU is 464-185-7 all-time, starting with the first season in 1956-57.

The Raiders (4-2) started fast against Embry-Riddle with victories by Tyler Lander and Jared Dalgleish at 125 and 133 pounds, respectively. Embry-Riddle cut the lead to 9-8 with victories at 141 and 149 before the Raiders turned on the pressure.

Paulo Rocha scored a decision at 165 and was followed by back-to-back pins by Austin Vanderford (174) and Derek Rottenberg (184).
